Dee Riley or rather the full stage name of "Jessy D. Riley" (Little known fact) , his birth name previously being "Daniel Jonathan Luke Riley", Dee is an Alternative Magician, The word "Alternative" used in context to his image and stage persona, Dee's Dark humour and quick wit along with his different image has allowed him to be unlike any other magicians out there.
His image and persona was all developed in the years 2006 - 2007, when he performed for the first time ever along side a friend on a holiday away for 50 or so people, one part magic one part mentalism. The pair called them selves "Illusio Duo",(meaning, "both to be there whilst not being there") We were all young once.
After that career path was slowly aborted as it withered and inevitably into the depths of the unspoken past, Dee left the world of magic for 2 years. Until in 2009 his interest was once again sparked by a certain magician "Derren Brown" Who's Tv programmes and books inspired Dee to try once more, Dee later met Derren early 2011 after being recognised by his idol not as "Dee Riley" but rather as "Dek Riley", the mind can only wonder, Dee studied the art of mind magic and mentalism, meeting magician Marc Paul who helped among other magicians.
In 2009 Dee then followed this up performing most friday nights at the union bar of the Imperial Collage Ascot, performing close up magic and mentalism to half drunken hormonal teenagers clutching on to the idea that a BTEC and degree in performing arts will suffice their pot noodle rioting orientated way of life, Late 2009 Dee went on to perform for their yearly ball, which consisted of 300 people, and so Dee performed hours worth of stage magic for the first time ever in front of this many people, of which it went down a treat and shall never be forgotten.
After talking at length with magician Tim Saiet in late 2009 who suggested Dee Join a magic club, Dee first joined the young magicians club, however £35 or so a year and the fact that Dee never attended meant that after 2 years he called it a day on that club and join Watford Association of Magic (WAM) while attending meetings there he met some really willing and helpful people who helped him progress, Paul Megram (Colonel custard) Award winning Children's Entertainer, helped and advised Dee after coming second in a children's magic competition other people such as Jerry O'Connell (Leather Jerry) and Gee Whizz helped Dee with his slight of hand and close up magic skills, Shortly after joining WAM Dee discovered that you had to be 18 in which to join at which point Dee had just turned 16, in an attempt to prove that age isn't a limit on magic, Dee entered two competitions at the age of just 16, he came runner up in both "close up" and " "kids competition" and finally entering the "stage competition" to which he came...1st prize.
Public events became more regular as Dee got to know the head of Pink Dance Academy, performing magic with them as they promoted any up and coming shows, this then in early October of 2010 brought Dee to the Beck Theatre, were by he was asked if he may perform a stage piece, to which he did, a quote from Dee "The best part was the fact that i got my own dressing room which is good when you are recovering from the night before, the shower was cold though......not cool" .
Dee Worked on different types of magic looking in to the idea of hypnosis at one point by the end of 2009, and coming in to early 2010 Dee had visited "Simon Drakes House of Magic" which blew him away the effects on display the skill the atmosphere everything was just perfect the first and only Alternative magic venue, after contacting Mr. Drake to inform him of Dee's visit and that he was a magician he asked that if there were any places he would love to work there, Dee got a call that night from a one Mr. Simon Drake, praising Dee on his image and persona and so began working with Simon.
This was then followed by an offer by London's "Magic Cavern" to ask if Dee may perform close up magic before the main performance, this was then followed up by an offer from Richard Leigh (Main magician at the Magic Cavern) asking if Dee could attend sessions learning the whole show among other shows; “West ends” - Late Night Magic and “London’s” - Magic Symphony.
By late 2010 Dee felt that he had performed enough small shows and private parties that he felt that it was time for something bigger he planned to perform his own stage show with tricks and illusions he had been working on here and there, this was to be the biggest thing he had ever put on, Dee had performed small 50 people shows this was to be for 100's, it took a year and a half work but Dee had perfected it......"DisasterPiece".
On the 8th October 2010 Dee performed his first staged show at the Chalfonts, "DisasterPiece", was originally supposed to be a series of small shows however after many talks with the shows technical manager Dante’ Larnyx it was decided to be one grand show, it was widely promoted getting two papers to cover the show and a few online blogs...yeahh hitting the big time. One paper suggested that Dee is going to be "a potential future star" the other blog nominated Dee for something called "The Local Legend Award" The show was expecting 150 people or so to turn up as it was Dee's first show, DisasterPiece had to start late due to the fact that 300 people attended all to see the performance.
The show consisted of feats such as: the spike illusion, disappearing acts, mind reading, spirit routines, Dark comedy magic and the main trick bullet catch, were by Dee was seen to be shot live as a mess up on the trick was staged, finishing the show there, as the song "I need a hero" came on Dee appeared at the back of the room in a super man outfit, pants and all....ladies.The show consisted of feats such as: the spike illusion, disappearing acts, mind reading, spirit routines, Dark comedy magic and the main trick bullet catch, were by Dee was seen to be shot live as a mess up on the trick was staged, finishing the show there, as the song "I need a hero" came on Dee appeared at the back of the room in a super man outfit, pants and all....ladies. In early 2011 Dee perform at Londons Boom,Boom club, this soon followed with regular appearances at London’s most beautiful cabaret venues- “Café de Paris’” and Madame Jo Jo’s. In mid 2011 an offer from the beautiful Miss. Laura London, to be apart of her agency for magicians.
Talking of beautiful Ladies in the December of 2011 Dee met and performed for Katy Perrys at her private party were she was a little naughty and did flirt after seeing Dee she said “Well hello Hubby, I’ve been told not to flirt with you by my mother-in-law” (Judging by her current 2012 relationship status, Dee you stand no chance)
By the end of 2011 Dee was asked to be apart of Sky1’s TV show don’t stop me now, featured on TV in the January of 2012, you see him as clear as day flirt with “Total wipe outs” Amanda byron and *safe* boxer David haye.
So once again we leave you with this quote from Dee: "If you like fear and you like Danger and you like guys in make up.....then YOU have issues, all this and more to come until then" MWAH!!! <3
